The Fun Fly Zone is the beating heart of HeliFest - a relaxed, high-energy flying area open all weekend for pilots who want to enjoy the freedom of flight without competition pressure.
Whether you’re practising new manoeuvres, warming up before your judged routine, or simply flying for the joy of it, the Fun Fly Zone offers a friendly, low-stress environment for everyone.
When can i fly?
The Fun Fly area is open:
- Friday all day
- Saturday between competition and demonstrations
- Saturday evening after 5pm
- Sunday between competition and demonstrations
The funfly peroids during saturday and sunday between competition and demonstration rounds will be scheduled each day. In the event of rain or other factors causing delays, the competition and demonstrations will be prioritised above funfly times.
Who Can Fly?
The Fun Fly area is open to:
- ONLY Helifest registered funlfy and competition pilots
- Beginners through to expert pilots
- All forms of RC helicopter flying such as 3D, F3C, F3N, Scale, BMFA Cert practice
- Any pilots without a BMFA B certificate must fly with a spotter who does have a minimum of BMFA B certification
This is the most welcoming space on the flightline.

The Fun Fly Zone is perfect for:
- Freestyle flying
- Practising new routines
- Tuning and setup adjustments
- Social flying with friends
- Getting stick time throughout the weekend
No pressure. No judging. Just flying.
How It Works
Fun Fly runs in managed sessions throughout the event to ensure safe, smooth, and enjoyable flying for everyone.
Pilots must follow:
- Flightline marshal instructions
- Designated flight areas
- BMFA/insurance requirements
- Safe operation and take-off procedures
